ReachSci has announced that it has won a funding grant from the Cambridge University Diversity Fund. The grant is one of the initiatives launched by the university to challenge any form of discrimination and inequality. Therefore, it also aims to enhance the representation of underrepresented groups and to raise awareness about issues related to equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as to facilitate the implementation of good practices within the university.
“We are proud to work with and be supported by a university research group led by Dr. Sam Stranks,” says Mohamed Al-Awami, Founder and President of ReachSci. ReachSci has collaborated with Dr. Sam Stranks’s group of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge University to design and manage a programme which specifically targets high school students in Britain who study photovoltaic and spectroscopy. The outcome of this collaboration culminated in winning a funding grant of £1,459. It is worth mentioning that this is the third grant received by ReachSci Society, as it had previously received a grant, from Sensor CDT at Cambridge University, that worths £2,300, and a grant of £1,100 by Cambridge Global Challenges, Strategic Research Initiative.
For reference, the research group of Dr. Sam Stranks, which is called the 'StranksLab', is a world-leading and well-known group in the field of optoelectronic materials and spectroscopy devices. Dr. Stranks received several awards, the most recent of which were the 2021 Philip Leverhulme Prize in Physics, Henry Moseley Prize and Medal from the Institute of Physics in 2018, and the Marlow Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2019. It is worth noting that Mr. Iqbal Affan, a member of Sam Stranks group, is the one in charge of the development of in-person programme component.
